The match
A lively game at the MKM Stadium (kick-off 2pm UK time, 3pm CEST), settled by four goals in the second half after Everton had led at the break.
Hull City picked up early bookings: Matt Crooks in the 13th minute, Oli McBurnie in the 21st. Everton went ahead in the 34th minute through Brennan Johnson. Two minutes later a VAR check did not alter the scoreline.
Hull City came out strong after the break and levelled in the 49th minute through Joe Gelhardt, set up by Sorba Thomas. Everton responded immediately: in the 55th minute Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, assisted by Ainsley Maitland-Niles, put the visitors back in front.
Hull made three substitutions in quick succession, in the 64th and 65th minutes, bringing on Elliot Stroud, Mohamed Belloumi and Tim Iroegbunam for Giles, Gelhardt and Crooks. Everton replaced Johnson with Tyrique George in the 66th minute.
Everton extended their lead in the 68th minute through Thierno Barry, again assisted by Dewsbury-Hall, making it 2-1. But Hull City needed only a few minutes to respond: in the 74th minute, substitute Mohamed Belloumi made it 2-2, assisted by fellow substitute Elliot Stroud.
Both sides made further changes late on (Morita, Hackney, O'Brien, Vaz, Dibling), but the score stayed at 2-2.

Everton dominated possession (65% to 35%) and had more shots overall, 15 to Hull City's 9, with 7 on target compared to Hull's 5. The hosts committed more fouls, 15 to 4, and were the only side to pick up yellow cards, 2 to 0. Corners were close, 7 for Hull City to 6 for Everton.
