The match
Germany took the lead in the 32nd minute at the Toumba Stadium in Thessaloniki. Jonathan Burkardt converted an assist from Derry Lionel Scherhant to make it 0-1. The goal went through two VAR checks before being confirmed.
Earlier, in the 23rd minute, Konstantinos Tsimikas picked up the match's first yellow card for Greece. Germany's Waldemar Anton was also booked, in the 36th minute.
In the second half Greece pushed for an equaliser but could not find a way through. Christos Zafeiris was booked in the 53rd minute. Further yellow cards followed for Philipp Treu (66'), Ivan Jovanović (73'), Manolis Saliakas (79') and Germany's Malick Thiaw (90').
Both sides made several changes. Greece brought on Alexandros Kyziridis and Vangelis Pavlidis at half-time, replacing Athanasios Androutsos and Konstantinos Karetsas, followed by Dimitrios Kourbelis (68'), Konstantinos Mavropanos (78') and Fotis Ioannidis (88'). Germany introduced Lennart Karl and Jonathan Burkardt's replacement arrived later, with Derry Lionel Scherhant and Tom Bischof coming on in the 83rd minute, as the match finished 0-1.
