Bournemouth struggled to respond in the first half and picked up two bookings: Marcus Tavernier in the 10th minute and Adrien Truffert just before the break, in the 43rd.

At the start of the second half, in the 46th minute, Bournemouth brought on Ben Gannon-Doak for David Brooks, but in the same minute Chelsea extended their lead further. João Pedro converted a Pedro Neto assist to make it 3-0. Bournemouth pulled one back in the 52nd minute through Evanilson, cutting the gap to 3-1.

The game grew feisty from there, with Bournemouth collecting more yellow cards: Tyler Adams in the 62nd minute and Ryan Christie in the 69th. In between, João Pedro completed his brace in the 67th minute, assisted by Pep Chavarría, for 4-1. Henderson then got his second of the afternoon in the 71st minute to make it 5-1.

Both sides made several substitutions late on, with no further change to the scoreline.
