Kazakhstan and the Faroe Islands drew 2-2 in Astana, with the visitors twice in front before the hosts came back to level in a match that saw two red cards in the closing stages.
The match
The Faroe Islands took the lead in the 22nd minute through Petur Knudsen, finishing a move to make it 0-1.
Kazakhstan made two changes at half-time, sending on Stanislav Basmanov for Yan Vorogovskiy and Ramazan Karimov for Artur Shushenachev. Before the break, Maksim Samorodov had been booked in the 38th minute.
In the second half the Faroe Islands doubled their lead through Géza Dávid Turi in the 63rd minute, making it 0-2. Two minutes later the visitors were reduced to ten men as Martin Agnarsson, who had been booked in the 52nd minute, picked up a second yellow card and was sent off in the 65th minute.
Kazakhstan took advantage of the extra man. Sergey Malyy pulled one back in the 68th minute to make it 1-2. The hosts completed the comeback in the 76th minute when Nuraly Alip levelled the score at 2-2.
The final stages were eventful for Kazakhstan too: Sergey Malyy, scorer of the first goal, was sent off in the 85th minute, leaving the hosts with ten men as well. Both sides used their remaining substitutions in the second half, including Heini Vatnsdal on for Samuel Chukwudi for the Faroe Islands, and Nauryzbek Zhagorov, Georgiy Zhukov and Bauyrzhan Islamkhan among Kazakhstan's late changes.
